St Agnes and the adjoining island of Gugh are beautiful and unspoilt, designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The most south-westerly of the Isles of Scilly, St Agnes is only one mile across so the many carns and coves can be explored on foot.

St Agnes may be a small island, but we all know that good things come in small packages! Whether you are staying a couple of days or weeks, there are plenty of things to do and see. If you love the outdoors and adventure, this island has a rugged, natural landscape to explore. The clear waters are perfect for snorkelling, kayaking, fishing and swimming, and the beaches have beautiful white sand and are great for rock-pooling or just sitting and watching the ocean.

Getting close to nature
Seals & puffins breed on the neighbouring uninhabited island of Annet. If you are lucky you might see dolphins too. In the Autumn St Agnes is host to rare migratory birds. St Agnes has some very distinctive wild flowers, moths and butterflies.

Gugh - A small island connected to St Agnes by a sandbar. Visit the old man of Gugh and enjoy the totally unspoilt landscape, coloured purple with heather. It is cut off at high tide, so check tide times before you go.

Cheering on the Locals - Friday and Wednesday nights in summer see the islands compete in fiercely contested Gig races. Jump on a spectator boat and cheer on St Agnes' gig - the Shah. Most sunny Sundays see the island men compete in the rather more sedate sport of cricket. Don't miss the highlight of the season - when St Agnes, St Martins and Tresco compete for the coveted Triangle trophy.

Beady Pool - Search for beads washed up in a shipwreck in the middle ages.

Sport & Adventure - the cool, clear waters around St Agnes are great for snorkelling, divng, fishing and kayaking. The many granite carns are great for climbing. The island has an all weather outdoor court for tennis, badminton, football etc... available for visitors to use. This can be booked via the Coastguards Cafe.

The Nags Head - An ancient standing stone with a very distinctive form... confused visitors can be found wondering the area looking for a pub!

Star-gazing - The clean air and lack of light pollution allows you to see the night sky with amazing clarity. On a clear night you can see dozens of shooting stars.

Picture
Whitepar - A rocky cove with dozens of granite towers... see if you can build the highest.

The Maze - An ancient labarynth said to have been built around C12th.

Wingletang - Take a walk on the wild side.

Watch the sun go down - There is nothing between you and the horizon apart from sand, sea and the odd rocky outcrop. Spectacular sunsets are the norm here at any time of the year.
